Sally Beck is a freelance journalist with 30 years-experience in writing health and human-interest features for national newspapers and magazines. She writes mostly for the Mail and Mirror groups. She is also a ghostwriter and has ghosted features for high profile scientists, doctors and prominent establishment figures. Sir Al Aynsley-Green, the former Children’s Commissioner, asked her to ghost a feature about his book ‘The British Betrayal of Childhood’ for the Daily Mirror, the only tabloid piece about it. Her work on restorative justice with Sir Charles Pollard, the former Chief Constable of Thames Valley police, helped raise its profile and as a result, the government subsequently invested in the protocol. Her work also inspired a play about restorative justice called ‘The Listening Room’.
She has written six books, all biography and four of them have focused on the experiences of a high-profile foster carer. She is an accomplished interviewer and has talked to subjects as diverse as Lord Tom Pendry, actress Goldie Hawn and Filipino politician Imelda Marcos. Her interview with Marcos looked at the hypocrisy of the politician and one of Marcos’s quotes inspired the album and musical ‘Here Lies Love’, written by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim.
